Visual Basic Programmer/Analyst- this is a 6-month temp to hire. Candidate will need to have some recent experience with a .NET technology. We are currently seeking a candidate to fill a position in the Information Technology development department. This position will be for a programmer analyst with experience in application software development. The successful candidate will have detailed knowledge of Visual Basic 6.0 used in writing and supporting client server applications. This position’s primary responsibility is for enhancement, modification and on going maintenance and support for a large commercial Payroll package with over 225 client installs. Once the successful candidate has gained experience and proficiency with the Payroll system, the level of responsibility will be expanded. This expansion will include enhancement, modification and on going maintenance and support for a large commercial local government Utility billing system with over 175 clients installed. All Payroll and Utility Billing clients are located locally and within surrounding states. Direct experience with Payroll or government Utility billing is not a requirement, but a definite positive. However, experience with large user base application maintenance and support is a must. Growth potential with this position is very strong. It is expected that within the next two years the entire Payroll and Utility systems will be modernized and upgraded using the latest in technology and object oriented development methodology. This project will require skills in areas such as Microsoft’s SQL and .Net. The Tech position will also remotely (and occasionally on site) support client needs. Direct interaction with clients may occur on a weekly bases; this interaction will involve solving an issue that the application level developer was unable to resolve while working directly with the application developer, internal support and the client. Required skills All required skills must have been used in a production level working environment. “Education level only skills” will not qualify for this standard.
• Visual Basic 6.0: Must have at least 6 months of VB 6 and have used it within the past 2 years.
• Other languages: Must have at least one language; this must be a structured compiled language (such as C, C++, or Java to name a few, other such as FORTRAN, COBOL or Pearl would be sufficient). In addition, this language must have been used for a period of no less than 6 months and used within the past 3 years.
• Database: Must been exposed to at least one database. This exposure can be to a relation database (such as SQL Server, Oracle, or Informix) or a multi value database such as Pick. This exposure must have been for a minimum of 6 months and used within the past 2 years and for relational database would include activities such as creating stored procedures, tables, relationships and functions.
• Platform: The tech position requires experience in Microsoft Windows (various versions are acceptable such as 2000 or XP). A strong candidate would also have a fair amount of knowledge of UNIX or Linux.
• Starting late this year or early next a major development and technology shift is going to begin. This technology shift will include exclusive use of the .Net development environment in concert with an enterprise level relational database. All major applications currently offered will be converted and built in .Net. It is expected that this process will be performed with a strong focus on added functionality, stability and class reuse. The successful candidate will not only posses the ability to be productive in the current working environment, but will be able to gain the business knowledge of our clients and products in a reasonable amount of time in order to be a major contributor during this technology shift.
